Maman, Louise Bourgeois’s giant spider, beside the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao

Things to do in Bilbao

Bilbao went from industrial city to a byword for architecture and art in just a few years: the Guggenheim Museum opened in 1997 and the estuary, once lined with shipyards, became a promenade of bridges and buildings by star architects. Alongside it, the Old Town is as lively as ever, with its Seven Streets and some of the best pintxos bars in the Basque Country.
